Council delays decision on housing plan

PLANS to build houses on East Stirlingshires former ground have been put on hold.
Falkirk Councils regulatory committee voted 7-5 to visit Firs Park before deciding if the bid by Ogilvie Homes for houses and flats should be given outline planning permission.

The firm bought the ground from the Third Division side last year for a reported £1.7 million, but its scheme to turn it into a housing estate has attracted dozens of objections from neighbours AND national agency SportScotland.

Commercial property market to fall still further

Scotland on Sunday reported yesterday that property prices in the commercial sector will have to fall a further 10% before investors will be lured back.

According to leading property consultants, some investors are poised with vast reserves of cash waiting for the right time to invest - but unfortunately that is not right now.

Commercial property prices have already fallen by 21.7% in the year to June 2008 and according to CB Richard Ellis a further correction will follow in the coming months.

The controversial single survey has created fresh debate as the Royal Institute of Chartered surveyors (RICS) has announced that the average cost may be as high as £820.

Halifax Estate Agents, the estate agency arm of the UKs biggest mortgage lender, is to close a quarter of its branches in a further indicator of the poor state of the UK property market.

Scottish Property Prices Buck the Trend

The Department of Communities and Local Government is reporting that UK property prices have fallen to a record low in the year to Jun 2008.

Despite bleak national picture, property prices in Scotland are still looking very healthy with prices rising 3.6 percent in July. Although there is speculation that this increase may simply reflect seasonal buoyancy in the market, it should nevertheless alay fears of a price crash in the Scottish property market.

Bannockburn battlefield site could be sold to developers

The site of Robert the Bruces famous win over the English in 1314 is to be left off the governments list of protected historical sites.

In theory, this means that the site on the southern edge of Stirling could be sold to developers and become a residential development.

The reason for the sites exclusion from the protected list seems to be that battle did not have enough participants.

Housing help may rescue market

THE UK is finally in recession, according to the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development. So how can consumers protect themselves from the storm of rising job losses, a property crash and financial hardship which look certain to follow?

Views remain divided over whether Scotland will follow the rest of the UK into recession, but a serious slowdown in economic activity is expected, which means families north of the border are unlikely to be spared falling house prices, rising unemployment and a stretch to meet bills.
