Halifax to close 53 estate agency branches


Halifax Estate Agents, the estate agency arm of the UKs biggest mortgage lender, is to close a quarter of its branches in a further indicator of the poor state of the UK property market.

The branch closures before the end of 2008 will lead to an estimated 100 redundancies, with 450 further staff forced to transfer into the Banks retail banking division.
